Yurbuds Review

I don’t know about any of you guys out there but I have struggled for years to find a pair of earbuds that don’t fall out of my ears immediately.  I think my ear holes are baby-sized or something…not sure.

Yesterday at the gym I found out that my current headphones were no longer working after I yanked hard on them at one point last week.  Something must have jostled loose in there or something.  So, off to Target I went tonight to look for a new pair.  Apparently I’m the only person who buys non-earbud, headphones anymore because unless you want ginormous ones, it’s earbuds.

I opted to try the Yurbuds because they say that they are developed for women and are smaller.  Plus it said “guaranteed to never fall out” so I opted to throw down the $30 and give them a shot.  I figured, when they don’t work, I’ll just return them or ask the company for my money back.

I have to say, I was very pleased with them.  I needed to use the smaller of the two silicone coverings but once I did the “twist lock” they didn’t fall out at all.  Even when I accidentally gave a the cord a tug.  I even did a circuit workout after my walk tonight and they stayed put through jumping lunges, squat jumps, and kettlebell swings!  See, still in place after a sweaty workout:

Don’t worry, I’m not getting compensated for these buds, they just worked really well for me and I’ve tried many different ear buds that typically fall out within 5 minutes, even when I’m just sitting.

As I mentioned, I went on a 25 minute walk after work today so with a 15 minute walk on my break, I got in a total of 65 minutes of walking today!  When I got home from my walk this afternoon, I opted to do Julie’s 6×6 workout but instead of box jumps, I did jumping lunges (6 each leg) and I used a dumbbell instead of a kettlebell because that’s what I had at home.  It was a great workout to follow-up my walk!

After that workout, I was starved so I quickly cooked up a pork chop, a microwavable wild/brown rice mix, and veggies.  I topped the pork with A1 and the rest with shredded parm.

Now, it’s vacuum time.  One of my least favorite chores- yuck!  Anyone wanna come do it for me??

Do you struggle with finding earbuds that fit??

What’s your least favorite household chore??

- vacuuming or unloading the dishwasher..I’ll pass!

Sunshine, On My Shoulders

Makes me happy!  I’m excited for a beautiful day today, upper 60’s and sunny.  :)   I woke up a little early this morning and went out for a walk.  My goal is to walk at least an hour today so if I walk for 15 minutes at work and then finish it off afterwards, I’ll be good.

I’m also planning to do a quick circuit workout tonight after work that should leaving me feeling sweaty.  I was going to do it this morning but after my walk I was so hungry that I just needed to eat!

I threw together a quick breakfast of Greek yogurt with granola and another piece of melon.

IMG_1257

I brought some sugar snap peas to work too because my breakfast might not be enough to hold me over until lunch.

Now I’m off to organize my purse quick before work.  I saw a great idea on A Bowl Full of Lemons to use makeup bags to organize your purse items instead of just tossing them all in the bottom.

Have a great Thursday!

Is your purse in a disarray??  Or do you keep it nice and organized??

Breakfast and a Workout

Well I’m happy to say that after a morning of excuses, I stuck to my guns and headed straight to the gym to get my workout in.  I’m on the last couple of workouts for this stage of The New Rules of Lifting for Women and will be happy to move on from these exercises.  I’m not sure what it is about this stage but I’m just not enjoying the workouts as much.  I’m hoping the next stage get me more fired up!

I actually haven’t been doing all of the exercises that are listed because…I’m lazy?  I’m not really sure, I just dislike the exercise so I just don’t do some of them.  I still get in a good workout but I know I’m slacking.

Tonight for dinner I made pancakes, bacon, and had more melon.  Sometimes you just need a plate of pancakes.  They were really good and hit the spot.

IMG_1256

I am seriously ready for some warm weather and no rain for a bit.  It’s been cold and miserable the last few days and is not feeling much like mid to late May here!  :(

Tomorrow is supposed to be cool but sunny so I’m hoping to get at least one walk in.  I need some sunshine to put me in a good mood!

Have a good night!

Do you find your mood changes with the weather??

Excuses, Excuses…

Yup, that would be me this morning.  I set my alarm to get up and go workout before work and then I remembered I left my gym bag with my shoes and clothes in the car.  Instead of going down to get it (which would have taken about 30 seconds) I opted to just go back to bed and sleep for another hour (which was glorious!).

So, since my bag is packed and ready, I’m not allowing myself to come home after work, I have to go straight to the gym.  Do not pass go…  :)

For breakfast this morning I toasted an English muffin and had that with peanut butter, a slice of melon, and a Greek yogurt.

I’m not sure where my motivation’s been recently (I think the cold/rainy weather killed it!) but I’ve been struggling to get to the gym.  I know that I’ll go tonight because I packed my bag but I just need to make sure I can find that motivation to keep going!  Sometimes getting there is the hardest thing.

I hope you have a more motivating day!

Do you struggle with getting to the gym at times??  What do you do to counteract that??

Flatout Pizza

Hello, hello!  I hope you’re having a great Tuesday.  I am pleased that I actually got in a 30 minute walk over the lunch hour today between rain storms!  It rained my whole drive down and back to work today so I’m glad I could sneak it in.

Tonight’s planned meal included pizza but to make it super easy I used Flatout! bread for the crust.

IMG_1253

Have you tried these before?  They’re pretty tasty and great for wraps or homemade pizzas and they’re only 90 calories each.  (I swear I’m not getting paid for saying that!)  I think they’d be great for those families where no one can agree on pizza topping…just make your own!

My pizza had mozzarella cheese, green peppers, parmesan cheese, and ham.

I also had a slice of melon on the side.  I’m very excited for fresh melons now that it’s getting to be summer time!

Again, it’s just a horrible tragedy to know that so many people were killed and injured in the tornado in Oklahoma.  It just goes to show how extremely powerful and destructive the weather can be and how important it is to continue research to help provide better warning to people to get to safety.

If you are looking to help out, the Red Cross, Salvation Army, United Way and other organizations are taking donations to help aid the victims.

Have a good night and enjoy the warm bed you have to sleep in.

Have you ever been in a tornado or other natural disaster??

- I have not but a tornado went through the south side of my town (I had left town about an hour before) about 5 years ago.  Luckily it did not go through the heart of town or it could have caused even more damage and destruction.

Thoughts…

After another horrible tragedy occurred yesterday, I hope and pray that all those affected by the awful tornado in Oklahoma, find peace.

Hug your loved ones and appreciate the roof you have over your head today and the food on your table.

Meal Plans for the Week

Howdy!

After a pretty busy work day (it flew by) and running errands tonight, I think I’ve com up with a few meals for this week’s meal plan.  Starting with Tuesday.  :)

  • Tuesday:  Homemade pizza on a Flat Out! with ham, cheese, peppers, and a side of melon
  • Wednesday: Breakfast for dinner- pancakes and bacon
  • Thursday: baked pork chop and roasted vegetables
  • Friday: leftovers/wing it
  • Saturday: out to dinner
  • Sunday: BF’s choice

Workouts for the week have started off poorly…no Monday workout.  Boo!  But getting on track as the week goes on!

  • Tuesday: walk
  • Wednesday: Weights/short cardio
  • Thursday: Long cardio
  • Friday: Weights/short cardio and walk dog
  • Saturday: walk the dog
  • Sunday: Walk the dog

And just because I love Ellen, I wanted to share this video with her reaction to the Abercrombie and Fitch clothing size issue that came out recently.  Only Ellen can be both funny and also share a great message to people of all ages about not being so concerned about your size!

Have a great Monday night!

Over Already?

Anyone else think this weekend flew by??  Seriously, I think in the summer especially, the weekends just tend to be gone in an instant and I realize I’ve gotten nothing accomplished.  :)

Knowing that I and my body were not going to be up to it, I opted to sleep in versus get up to work out.  I’m hoping to get in workout after work tonight, though.

Because I’m both lazy and in need of groceries this morning, I opted to just grab a Greek yogurt, granola, a string cheese, and half a mango for breakfast this morning.

IMG_1252

I have no clean bowls (dishwasher going as I type this) so I apologize for the mango in the mango-colored bowl!  :)

Enjoy your start to the week and I’ll catch ya on the flip side!

Lazy Sunday

Hello!  I hope you had a great weekend.  Last night the BF and I met up with some people and went to the grand opening of a new bar the next town over.  It was fun but needless to say, I’m tired today!  We were bums but I did finally finish watching Life of Pi…good excuse to lay on the couch.

Have you seen this movie?  It was pretty good.  Different from most other things I’ve watch recently, but good.

In the spirit of being lazy, I’m putting off my meal planning until tomorrow also when I got grocery shopping!  I’m off to watch some Mad Men and relax with a Powerade on the couch.  (Need to rehydrate!) :)

Pretty Flowers

How’s everyone doing on this overcast Saturday?

My morning was filled with a baby shower and a stop at Menards to buy flowers for the pots that I have at the BF’s.  My plan was to get in a workout too but that didn’t happen…

Once I got back to the BF’s I planted all of the flowers, watered them, and set them out front.

This is my first attempt at any sort of gardening so it was fitting that I bought the “Gardening for Dummies” flowers.  I figure with these, I can’t fail!  :)

I hope you are having a wonderful Saturday.  Now I’m off to enjoy a beer and read my book on the porch!
